Scott Hale

In 2003, Scott left a career in construction management in Seattle, and relocated to Bozeman, Montana to paint full-time. There he found a home base to start his new life as a landscape painter. In both pastel and oil, Scott's paintings have a timeless quality about them, while feeling contemporary as well. In 2016, Scott relocated to southern Utah to enjoy the mild winter climate while diving artistically into the curious, red rock worlds now surrounding him.

"This is my exploration of the natural wonders and terrain of the American West. Discovering its endless moods and faces is my work. Many of my paintings are interpretations of places where light, land and water collide in profound moments. Others are my records of settings where there lies understated compositional beauty rather than majestic drama. Relying on a mixture of representational and abstract sensibilities, I am engaged in creating impressions that are equal parts sight and emotion.

As a painting develops, I tend to focus on strong compositional lines and shapes, the interchange of light and dark values, and intriguing color. I combine these characteristics in a singular style, which has a strong graphic quality and visual depth."
